Bill first considered real estate as a career path when he was a student at Murray High School. He was inspired by his father, a local dentist, who was active in real estate development and investments. After initially pursuing another career path, Bill returned to Murray to open Kopperud Realty in 1976 and has enjoyed working in his youthful vision ever since. “Since opening the office, I have enjoyed playing a small part in helping Murray and Calloway County grow and become a truly amazing community. We are currently working with new clients from all parts of the country that are interested in purchasing a home or starting a business. I hope every one of them come to enjoy living here as much as I do.”

“My first experience in selling was during the summers of my college years. I sold Bibles and dictionaries door to door in the Carolinas and in Florida. After my first summer, I also recruited and managed other salesmen,” he notes. After graduating from Murray State University as a member of the first group of psychology majors, Bill went on to earn his Master’s degree in Industrial Psychology from University of Tulsa. His next step was to join the Army after having been in ROTC at Murray State. He served the Army in Personnel and was assigned to the Pentagon. Leaving the service as a Captain, Bill then spent several years as a Human Resource Analyst and Labor Relations Representative at Ford Motor Company in Dearborn Michigan.

His love of Murray and the lakes region of western Kentucky drew him home, and he has been the Principal Broker of Kopperud Realty for the last 47 years. He is one of the very few Certified Real Estate Brokerage Managers (CRB) in Western Kentucky and is also a Certified Residential Specialist (CRS) designee and a Graduate of the Realtor Institute (GRI). Recognizing the value of advanced education in the real estate field, Bill has encouraged his agents to pursue continuing education and prestigious designations from the time he first opened his office.

During his career, Bill has worn many hats in the community, as he feels that one should give back locally, not only with donations to worthy causes such as the new Cancer Center and Murray State, but also investments in time and service. He has served as the President of the MCC Board of Realtors twice and as a Director on the Board for many terms. His service was recognized when he was selected as Realtor of the Year by his peers. In the community, Bill has served as President of the Murray-Calloway County Chamber of Commerce and is a past President of the Murray State Alumni Association. He has been a board member of United Way and has served for over 40 years on the local Boy Scouts of America Annual Fundraiser event.

Bill enjoys following local sports at the high school and MSU levels. He also collects vintage sports memorabilia and has developed friends across the county through this hobby. He enjoys spending time on the lake with family and friends.
